Q. What is The Catholic University of America?

The Catholic University of America is a national research university with 5,700 undergraduate and graduate students with 12 schools, 32 research facilities, in more than 250 academic programs on a residential campus in the heart of Washington, D.C. Q. What is Light the Way?

Q. What is the National Collection?

Since 1903, the National Collection for The Catholic University of America is an annual national second collection taken in Catholic parishes throughout the country. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has assigned the collection – the only national collection for higher education - the month of September on their national collection schedule.


Q. Why is the National Collection important?

The collection is a critical pillar of support for the University community and its students. The funds generously received from the collection go towards supporting various forms of student financial assistance, the University's ever-changing operating expenses and other critical initiatives to support students and the University community's greatest needs.


Q. How can I give to the collection?

There are numerous ways to contribute to the collection. If your parish takes the collection during mass, you can give directly in-person. If your parish doesn’t take the collection or if you prefer to give securely online, either on a computer or mobile device, please use this site: https://futurecatholicleaders.igivecatholictogether.org and select “Give Now" from the home page.

Q. Can I only donate to the collection during September?

No. Support for collection is year-round. In fact, many Dioceses elect to the take the collection at different times. A gift to the collection can always be made securely using this site.


Q. In addition to donating, how else can I support the collection?

Consider joining our St. Paul Society and becoming a parish ambassador. Ambassadors work with their pastors to help spread the word about Catholic University and the collection at their parishes.


Q. Are gifts tax-deductible?

Yes. All donations are tax-deductible and irrevocable and will be for the designated use of your chosen charity.


Q. Do donors receive a tax receipt from the University?

No. Donors immediately receive an email tax receipt from #iGiveCatholic confirming their gift amount and designation to the Catholic University of America National Collection. Note that all donations must be 100% tax deductible (no additional benefits.) If you do not receive an email tax receipt, check your email “spam” folder.


Q. Are there fees associated with donations to the collection through the #iGiveCatholic platform?

The convenience of donating through this site (with special features and extra security measures) means there are fees. The fees cover tech support, robust security, detailed reporting, and other behind the scenes components allowing the University to focus on their mission. All donations will be paid to the University net the platform, ACH, and/or credit card transaction fees. Fees for ACH gifts (available for donations of $100 or more) total 3.4% plus $3.00. Credit card transaction fees total 5.9% plus $0.30. Donors have the option to cover these fees at the time of donation, and they will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount.


Q. Are there refunds?

All donations are final and cannot be refunded. However, if you notice an error in your transaction, please contact GiveGab's Customer Success team immediately through the blue chat bubble in the bottom right-hand corner.


Q. Who will receive my contact information?

The University will have access to your name and email address. This information is used solely to send thank you messages, provide the option to receive future notifications, and to notify you of future activities.


Q. Is my payment secure?

Absolutely. Gifts on this site are facilitated by GiveGab, a company that has partnered with Stripe, a PCI Service Provider Level 1 (the most stringent level of certification possible) to process all gifts made through this site. Read throughStripe's security documentation online.


Q. Who is GiveGab?

GiveGab is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers quickly and efficiently. GiveGab offers a full portfolio of simple and easy to use products that allows organizations to function in a more streamlined manner. They also offer technical support to supporters and visitors on the site.
